I am just exploring wet plate photography and found your site. After looking at your work here I think these are a great improvement. It's hard to really tell over the internet but the surface pour and coverage looks more consistent so it looks like your image is more consistent. Of the two I like the top one best. Keep up the good work.

Hi Gayle,
I think it was a combination of overexposure and overdeveloping on different plates. I seem to have things under control (gulp--I don't like to even say it!), and I wonder if some of my "bad" plates were caused by the trophy aluminum I was using. It's possible that I got a batch that was coated badly and it was causing reactions. But yes, in most of them I was developing too long.

You poor thing. If I didn't know how it ends I would join you in shedding tears. As you say the real plates are worse than the ones on the photo but that is maybe because they faded even more. You are doing a great job in eliminating the various problems.

What a disappointment! But practice makes perfect, so try, try and try again! Think of all the millions you could put into your new company when you get going after this last bump in the road. Consider what you have done to get this far, so this is really nothing to worry about.

Interesting Ambre I remember years ago when I developed my own photographs, back in the days when we all wore a Canary attached to our hats, that temperature was very important. If I remember correctly 70deg was the optimum but I guess keeping the mixture cool would be your problem. happy New Year to you both

Thanks, Borut! I just read your post on the FB group...hopefully mixing your own chemicals will get you more contrast. I really thought hard about buying premixed, it would have been so much faster and less trouble, but I've learned so much about the chemistry by doing it myself (and am still learning).
